Privacy policy

The short version: you can play the card decks without giving us anything. If you pair up, play on two phones or buy the paid packs, we store the minimum needed to make that work. Your daily answers can only be read by you and your partner, and only after you've both answered. We don't sell data and we don't show ads.
Who we are
This policy covers DateNightQ, an independent app ("DateNightQ", "we") at datenightq.com. We decide how your data is used (we're the "controller"). Contact us any time at support@datenightq.com or through the contact form.
What we store, and why

You never have to give us personal data to play the card decks or the quiz. Pairing, live rooms, the daily question and purchases need the data listed for them above; without it those features can't work. We don't make automated decisions about you or build profiles that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Who can read your daily answers
Only the two members of your couple. Your partner's answer stays hidden from you until you've answered the same day's question, and yours stays hidden from them until they've answered. This is enforced by the database itself, not just the app. Nobody else, including other users, can read them. We access stored answers only if you ask us to (for example, to delete them) or if the law requires it.
Legal bases (for visitors in the EU/UK)
- Contract: pairing, rooms, daily answers, purchases and restoring access.
- Consent: analytics cookies, session recordings and reminder emails. You can withdraw consent any time on the cookies page or with the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Legitimate interests: cookieless, aggregated usage statistics, error reports and keeping the service secure.
- Legal obligation: keeping payment records for tax purposes.
Services we use
These companies process data for us under data processing agreements. Some are outside the EU/UK; transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Supabase: database and anonymous accounts
- Netlify: hosting
- Stripe: payments
- PostHog (EU servers): product analytics and error reports
- Brevo: email delivery (reminders and sign-in links)
How long we keep it
- Daily answers: until you unpair or ask us to delete them.
- Rooms: 24 hours after the last activity.
- Anonymous accounts with no activity for 12 months: deleted automatically (checked every night), together with their answers, unless the couple holds a lifetime or active monthly purchase.
- Payment records: as long as tax law requires (usually up to 7 years).
- Analytics events: up to 2 years.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent. To delete everything, use the contact form (pick "Delete my data") or email us from the address you used, and include your couple code if you have one. We reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Age
DateNightQ is for people aged 16 and over, and isn't directed at children. When you pair, answer the daily question, start a room or buy, you confirm you're 16 or older. If you believe someone younger has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
California and other US privacy rights
- No sale or sharing: we don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We don't show ads.
- Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: we don't track you across other websites. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as "no" to analytics cookies and don't ask. Browsers' older "Do Not Track" setting has no agreed standard, so we don't respond to it separately; you can turn analytics off on the cookies page at any time.
- Review or change your data: to see, correct or delete what we store, use the contact form. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and say so on the site.
